Auditions

Those wishing to perform in a Tuesday evening or Friday morning formal concert for CCPAS must first perform successfully in an audition. There are two auditions per season, in the fall (November) and spring (March 2, 2014, 1-3 pm). Audition dates and times will be announced in the Newsletters. Please submit your personal bio and program selections by Feb. 22. One need not be a CCPAS member to audition; however, after a successful audition, membership is required before being considered to perform at these concerts.

Audition Requirements

  Solo Keyboardists
Play three contrasting pieces selected from three of the four major periods of music.

Solo Vocalists
Sing three contrasting pieces selected from three of the four periods of music. At least two must be in a language other than English.

Solo Instrumentalists
Play three contrasting pieces selected from three of the four major periods of music. While unaccompanied compositions may be included, it is strongly advised that they be limited to only one of the three pieces required.

Ensemble (group audition)
Perform three contrasting pieces selcted from three of the four major periods of music. Memorization is not required. In the case of vocal ensembles, at least two must be in a language other than English.

Chamber Player (individual audition)
Prepare two contrasting pieces selected from two of the four periods of music to be played in an audition Ensemble. Every effort will be made to help performers put together their audition ensemble with the aid of CCPAS ensemble performers. If you are in a group with a CCPAS auditioned member, the auditioned member may request that the group perform at a regular CCPAS concert and ask for a quorum of the Audition Committee to attend the performance.

Performers passing the audition for either Ensemble or Chamber player may not perform as a soloist until they have passed a Solo Instrumentalist audition.

However, an individual who has successfuly auditioned as a soloist may be considered for both solo and ensemble performances. Requests for an ensemble performance at CCPAS must be made by an auditioned member.

Accompanists are not required to audition. Performers desiring to audition who do not have ready access to an accompanist may refer to the list of accompanists in the CCPAS directory. The performer is not required to select a CCPAS accompanist and may choose whoever is qualified.

In all cases, the Audition Committee is looking for skills in different styles and techniques.
