Sturm-Page Piano Scholarship Competition

Audition : Saturday, March 3

Concert : Sunday, March 11 at 3:00 p.m.

General Information:

The Sturm-Page Piano Scholarship was established by the Contra Costa Performing Arts Society in 2003 for the purpose of providing financial assistance to a talented and deserving piano student to aid his/her further studies. The funds are derived from a bequest made by the family of Martha Sturm and Emma Page to the Performing Arts Society for this purpose. The amount of the prize is $1500.

SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

1) The Sturm-Page Piano Scholarship is open to students 16-24 years of age. They must reside or attend school in Contra Costa, Alameda, Solano, San Francisco, or Santa Clara County.

2) The application must be postmarked by February 17, 2012. The entry fee is $30. The entry fee is waived for students whose teachers or families are members of PAS or who are members of the Student Chapter of PAS. Membership information is available on our FAQ. 3) The audition will take place on the morning of Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2100 Tice Valley Blvd., Walnut Creek. Students will be notified of their audition time by February 25. A 9-foot Steinway concert grand piano will be available for the audition. If necessary, an additional audition may be scheduled as a final round.

4) Repertoire requirements: Two pieces of contrasting style from two different musical periods. The judges will hear 15 minutes of the repertoire pieces. Music must be memorized. An original copy (no photocopies) of the music must be provided for the judges during the audition.

5) The decision of the judges is final.

6) The winner will be featured in a Scholarship Winners’ Concert of the Performing Arts Society on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church in Walnut Creek . S/he must be prepared to perform 30 to 45 minutes of memorized music on that date in order to be presented with the $1500 scholarship award.
