STUDENT MUSIC ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP

 

INFORMATION SHEET

 

Place:               Shadelands, 111 North Wiget Lane, Walnut Creek, CA

 

Date and Time: Friday, June 18, 2010, 12:00-8:00 PM. Coaching sessions will be held during the afternoon. Dinner will be served prior to the Student Concert at 7:00 PM in the Shadelands auditorium.

 

Important          March 15, 2010 Ð applications must be postmarked

Dates:               April 1, 2010 Ð participants selected and notified by e-mail or telephone

 

Requirements    Applicants must attend high school and reside in Contra Costa County.  Classical or jazz

& Selection       musicians are eligible.

Criteria:

Students may apply as pre-formed ensembles (strongly encouraged) or as individual players who will be assigned to a group. Each student must submit a separate application form.

 

All individual players and groups must submit a 3-4 minute audition tape, CD, or DVD. The Registration fee is $45 per student; it will be refunded if applicant is not selected.

 

Ensembles of 3 to 6 players (can include one pianist) will be accepted. Pre-formed groups may perform one selection up to 6 minutes in duration.  Individual players will receive group assignments and repertoire by April 15. It is expected participants will learn their individual parts so they will be at performance level by the workshop date. Phone numbers and e-mail of participants in assigned groups will be distributed so students can rehearse prior to June 18.

 

Selection of participants will be based on audition tapes and instrumental balance considerations. Up to 10 groups will be selected.

 

Coaching:          Groups will have an opportunity to rehearse during the workshop, and will receive coaching from distinguished professional chamber music or jazz performers.

 

Food:                Snacks and dinner will be provided for the participants.

 

Concert:            All groups will perform at the evening concert, which will be open to the public.   Performances will be recorded and each participant will receive a DVD copy of the concert.
